Snap on Stars of karting finals Las Vegas USA 19th - 21st October

Scott travelled to Vegas secure in the knowledge that he was already USA East coast champion and leading the overall national championship by eighty five points.

He was also aware that while this was a hugely prestigious event track action could be frantic as it is literally all or nothing on the day much like a UK "O" plate meeting.

Official testing on the Friday went very well with Scott topping the timings and things looked to be ok for qualifying. Scott qualified on grid two alongside the reigning champion and set about the three heats in a confident mood, three good finishes of first, second and third further improved the confidence as the first final came around.

Starting on grid two Scott looked comfortable until a plug cap broke and meant a dnf.

So from a commanding lead of eighty five points his advantage was suddenly down to just five. From the chasing pack's point of view this was most definitely game on again and Scott knew that nothing short of a win would secure the coveted USA overall championship. Scott had worked hard to reach this position and was in no mood to surrender the title that had been in his grasp all season thanks to some great performances throughout the year. Scott produced a drive of complete maturity knowing what was needed and controlled the race to take the win and secure the title in front of a huge crowd.

World KF2 (ICA) championship Mariembourg 20th - 23rd September

SCOTT CROWNED KF2 (formerly ICA) WORLD VICE CHAMPION

To fully understand the scale of Scott’s achievement this weekend knowledge of the lead in problems he and his team had to overcome is important.

On The Tuesday prior to the meeting it was still not clear whether Scott would be taking part, Intrepid had previously opted out of European and World competition because of the new engine supply situation and Scott had little option but to switch his attention to the USA championships instead. In the meantime Scott and the team explored all routes to compete in the European and World championships at their own expense, A good result from the Europeans showed Intrepid that they could be competitive at the Worlds and they promised to prepare chassis for testing unfortunately they did not materialise until it was too late to test as Scott had to fulfil his USA commitments. It was important to test the chassis with Dunlop tyres due to its previous incompatibility on the Mariembourg circuit. In the meantime due to the chassis doubts Scott’s engines had been allocated to another driver by his Belgian engine builder and things were looking gloomier by the minute. Our UK based engine builder managed to prepare two engines and send them to the circuit and an untried carburetor was purchased. In the end the team arrived at the circuit ready to race and fortunately testing was to show that Intrepid had done a good job as the chassis looked capable, there was though of course very limited opportunity to develop the set up as we would like as valuable sessions were used to run in engines. One of the units seized twice and had to be rebuilt locally on both occasions which further restricted valuable testing time.

Scott is never better than when faced with an uphill battle and so it proved on Saturday, a reasonable test session was followed by a brilliant second place in qualifying and things were looking up, however, the team had to use race situations to further develop the chassis set up which at this level is never a good thing. The heat results considering the circumstances were excellent bringing a fourth, second and a win in the last when the team were just about there with the kart set up. Scott knew a good result from the pre final was vital to give himself a clear shot at the title and he delivered brilliantly with a third and grid three for the grand final. Scott drove his usual strategic race ready to mount a challenge when the time came. He looked relatively comfortable in second position but in truth the equipment could not match the power of the eventual winner. And so an epic eight year journey from novice cadet to World vice champion was over and Scott would like to thank everyone involved over the weekend in making it possible.

Snap -on stars of karting Beaumont USA 14th - 16th September

Scott traveled to California secure in the knowledge that he had already become the unofficial East coast champion without completing his divisional races due to his European commitments. A rule in the States permits a driver to take part in a round of the other division in certain circumstances such as commitment to another CIK event, Scott's team decided to use this rule to accumulate points ready for the season's grand final at Las Vegas in October. Friday's testing took place in blistering heat and went well and Scott took part in qualifying for Saturdays race in a confident mood, the team were a little disappointed with fifth place but set things right with a blistering drive in the pre - final to take a deserved win made all the better when Scott had to nurse the kart home due to a broken radiator meaning he had to manually cool the engine using the choke for the last few laps, however tragedy was waiting as the loss of all fluid from the system meant the kart was a fraction underweight and he was therefore disqualified.

This meant a last place start for the final and now Scott was really up against it.

Scott however produced one of his finest performances to be ninth by the end of the first lap and fifth by lap four, that was to be the end of the day as a tangle between him and the fourth placed driver ended with both crashing out and a non finish.

Scott is always at his best when up against it and a outstanding qualifying performance Sunday morning saw him take pole but that is not the whole qualifying story: the circuit transponder Scott was using stopped working and he was therefore recording no times he came in for a replacement and had literally one flying lap left to record a time and took pole comfortably. The pre -final went according to plan with Scott taking a lights to flag victory and pole for the final.  Scott took the lead from the lights but clearly something was not right and was slowly dropping away eventually finishing sixth with a faulty ignition  in fact Scott did incredibly well to hold on to sixth when the official times were posted as the fault meant a drop of nearly a second a lap compared to the pre - final times. A disappointing end to a tough weekend although his overall points tally was improved by seventy points and using the DNF as his drop score he cemented his lead in the championship.

british Championship Warden Law 24th - 26th August

The sun shone as Scott took part in his last Formula A race in the UK over the bank holiday weekend. Testing went very well and the mood within the camp was also decidedly sunny. Qualifying was excellent as Scott looked like taking pole until being pipped by 1/100th of a second and eventually had to settle for a front row position.

Scott was in fine form and took a win and third place from the two heats promoting him to pole for the first final. The race did not go entirely to plan though and he had to settle for a fourth place finish. The team were still extremely confident and that confidence looked well founded as Scott secured and then extended his lead and looked to be in control when a rear bumper bolt broke and although everything was securely tied together the officials decided to bring him on safety grounds although this was of course an extremely disappointing end to his formula A career in the Uk Scott completely respects the officials decision.

British kartmasters grand prix, Super Libre 17th - 19th August

The PFI kartmasters meeting is always a very tough meeting to win in any class, Scott this year was entered into the Super libre class which is a mixture of Formula A and ICA and includes all the countries top drivers some of whom are professional paid drivers and many have up to ten years plus experience of these extremely tough classes. Scott

of course is still only fifteen but had already made his mark by winning both British formula A and ICA open championships earlier this year. Friday testing went well with Scott well up with the pace and looking strong. Saturday dawned and was typical PFI weather, a complete guess which way it was going to go, he recorded three strong heat finishes and achieved the fastest lap of the day and was rewarded with grid five for the pre -final on Sunday. There is one word for Sundays weather - atrocious, however Scott drove very well in appalling conditions in both the finals and eventually finished fifth overall. Whilst being a little disappointed with the final result the team believe that actually in his first year of competition at this level it was in fact a good performance given the quality of the opposition and the appalling weather conditions.

european ICA championship Salbris 2nd - 5th August

After all the hard work Scott and his team had put in through the year to make even participation in this years championship possible, recent testing and racing showed that the engine difficulties were behind us and the event was approached with confidence by all concerned, especially after Scott's great run at Salbris just six weeks earlier in the French championship meeting. Unfortunately as so often happens in motor racing things out of your control conspire against you and this meeting proved very difficult. Very early in the meeting the team knew they were struggling as it seemed impossible to run the Dunlop tyres effectively on the Intrepid chassis. Many years of experience went into trying to get the right set up but to no avail. Many other competitors were having the same problem as the meeting was being dominated by one chassis manufacturer and Scott was in the end the only Intrepid mounted driver to even qualify for the final all be it in a relatively lowly tenth place. With Scott's ability to drive through problems the team were still confident of a top six finish but when you are down your down and after progressing through to eighth place the front brakes broke and he eventually did well to bring the kart home in fourteenth place. With his much awaited move to single seater's looming this was of course programmed to be his last European race and Scott was bitterly disappointed to end on such a low note. However, with the World championship scheduled for late September Scott and the team are already working hard to rectify the situation and ensure they are competitive at that meeting.

European championship qualifiers Essay 13th - 15th July

At the beginning of the season Scott's European season looked to be over with the controversy surrounding the new engines and Intrepid's decision to pull out of European competition. Despite being entered for the United States championship Scott and his team never gave the Europeans up and worked tirelessly on the development work needed to enter the European championships, having satisfied themselves that the gap had been bridged the qualifiers were entered with every confidence.

Practice sessions showed that confidence to be well founded as he ran amongst the quickest all day.  Scott duly put in a storming run to qualify on pole position and set himself up for the three heats. He went on to be the dominating force finishing with two wins and a fourth to take pole position for the pre - final. A slight niggling problem relegated Scott to third position but that was enough for qualification and Scott was through to the European championships to be held at Salbris. With qualification assured the team were able to approach the final in a positive frame of mind and go for the win however that niggling problem developed into a broken reed petal and a twelth place finish, although disappointed he could not cement a great weekend with the win his performance deserved qualification was achieved and with some style.

British Championship Shenington 6th - 8th July

For a change this season the weather held fine most of the weekend and Scott began the practice day in confident mood and the sessions went to plan with some good competitive times and Scott and the team looking in good form, however that mood was soon shattered when the chosen chassis broke at the back end near to the end of the day. We were now left with only two remaining sessions before qualifying and a chassis used for European competition our only option. The team did remarkably well and Scott drove as hard as possible to gain a creditable fifth place to turn the situation around.

With the remaining set up work to be completed the following morning the kart was not quite right for the two heats but Scott managed to record excellent finishes of fourth and third in the heats to give himself fourth place on the grid for the pre - final. With everything now right the team were reasonably confident of a good result. Shenington is a very high revving circuit (circa 21000) and other drivers had suffered seizures and blow ups all weekend unfortunately our turn came in the pre final with Scott moving forward and up to third the engine gave out which left Scott a spectator for most of the race and more importantly last place on the grid for the final. As so often during his career he managed to turn things around again with a great drive to fourth place and salvage the meeting.

french Championship Salbris 15th - 17th June

Scott returned to European racing following many hours of testing on the new engines, the team were hopeful that all the work would pave the way for a European championship challenge and they were proved right when he ran a lot of the weekend as the quickest kart in both wet and dry conditions. The weather throughout Europe had been appalling this weekend and France did not escape its share with many of Fridays scheduled test runs being abandoned due to torrential rain. This was a distinct disadvantage as the team needed the track time to bed down the new equipment.

Qualifying went very well with Scott finishing in fifth position. The three heats threw up a variety of conditions with Scott finishing heat one in second place in wet conditions, heat two was dry and Scott took a dominant win and the rain returned for the third heat where he again finished second. He went on to win the pre - final convincingly in the dry which put him on pole for the final. The team were now confident of a good result and Scott did not disappoint stretching his lead lap by lap until he led by virtually the length of the straight, in any form of motor sport lady luck often has a big say in winners and losers and today proved no exception when his drive chain snapped when a win was virtually assured. Disappointed? yes of course but the object of this weekend had been to prove that engines were now capable of competing in the European and World championships and this had been achieved. Scott was now back to European racing and will contest both championships together with his USA and British commitments.

British championship Larkhall circuit 1st - 3rd June

Following the tremendous successes in the USA two weeks ago Scott was as you would imagine full of confidence for this meeting. Sitting third in the series in his first year of competition at this level and still only fifteen he had already made his mark. This weekend begun well with Scott qualifying in third place and then recording two excellent heat results of first and second , this put him on the front row for the first final and hopes were high.  The engine never looked right from the beginning of the race and Scott was eventually forced to pull off and record a DNF,  the culprit found later to be a broken spark plug cap. The team have learned to never say never where Scott is concerned and starting from the very back of the grid he produced one of his best drives to reach fifth place and so keep his hopes of the championship very much alive.

snap - on Stars of karting series Indianapolis USA 18th - 20th May

Scott completely dominated proceedings this weekend at the famous Indianapolis kart circuit New Castle. Scott arrived at the track as “Snap– on stars of karting” series leader courtesy of his double win in the “Race of Americas” in Oklahoma recently.usa flag

Driving the circuit for the first time in Friday’s practice did not stop him finishing the day as quickest in the ICA category.

This meeting was a double header with two separate rounds on  Saturday and Sunday. Qualifying on pole for the first round on Saturday, Scott then went on two win both finals convincingly.

Sunday’s qualifying was equally successful with Scott bettering the previous days time to again achieve pole position. The finals went completely to plan with Scott again in total control of proceedings recording two more dominant victories.

Scott now has a 100% record in the series taking four wins out of four. Scott would like to thank his support team for all their hard work over the weekend.

British championship PFI cicuit 20th - 22nd April

After rounds three and four at PFI circuit Scott moved into third place in the championship with two strong finishes. Qualifying went extremely well with a great third place but Scott's weekend was made more difficult when a radiator cap broke in heat one resulting in a non finish, however he put in a typical never say die performance in heat two to finish second and gain a workable grid place of eighth for the first final.

A determined drive brought him to a fifth place finish in final one and a real chance for final two, Scott did not disappoint and he brought the kart home in second place and gained his first podium of the championship.

Race of Americas Oklahoma USA 13th - 15th April

Scott recorded a dominant win in the Snap on stars of karting first round

in Oklahoma. The inaugural round is also known as the Race of Americas as both East

and West divisions combine for this season opener.usa flag

Scott’s first visit to the circuit was on Thursday prior to the meeting when both he and his race engineer Dean Panrucker walked the circuit. Friday practice was wet all day and went very well with Scott topping the timings.

Qualifying on Saturday was still damp but with a dry line and the team took the decision to run slicks which paid off handsomely as Scott took pole position. The first heat provided a well deserved win and Scott’s team was confident of a good result in heat two, true to form Scott was leading when he suffered a puncture but managed to bring the kart home in seventh place. These heat results meant grid three for both the pre – final and grand final to take place on Sunday.

The pre – final went perfectly to plan and Scott took a resounding win. In the final drama was to unfold as Scott had just taken the lead fairly early on in the race when an accident back in the pack brought out the red flags and a full restart was ordered.

Fortunately the re –run was a carbon copy of the aborted race without the red flag and Scott took what was in the end a fairly comfortable well deserved victory

British Championship, Wigan 17th- 18th March

As is often the case at the first round the weather conditions played a major part in the

proceedings, this year even the weather excelled itself providing sunshine, rain and sleet at will. This caused all the competitors problems and provided a very unpredictable race meeting. Qualifying did not go as the team expected with a disappointing position of 11th, however given Scott's heroics from the previous meeting at Wigan the team were still confident of a decent result. Two reasonable heat finishes meant that Scott had improved his starting position to 9th for the first final and a typical determined and disciplined drive brought a well earned finish of 4th. A start on the 2nd row meant that Scott was in with a chance of a podium finish but unfortunately the last word at this meeting went to the weather again when a torrential downpour of hail and sleet led to the 2nd final being abandoned and the results called on the grid positions.

British O plate championship formula A & formula ICA, Wigan 25th February

Scott's team had thought long and hard about this double entry but had the faith  in the driver to deliver in both  championships. What an inspired decision that turneScott with both O plate trophiesd out to be!

ICA

ICA got off to the worst possible start when an incident meant that Scott could not post a qualifying time and therefore had to start both his heats from the back of the grid.

Outstanding heat performances of 7th and 4th put the disappointment behind him and he started the pre final from grid 5, after a spirited drive finishing 2nd and front row for the final. The final was a terrific race and there were some great tussles between the front three throughout, Scott maintained his composure to record his first 2007 championship.

Formula A

Up against the top drivers in the country the team were pleased with a more than respectable qualifying of 5th place. Two exceptional heat results put Scott on pole for the pre final. Real drama was to unfold however when his back bumper broke which quite rightly resulted in a mechanical flag and a premature end to the race, this of course meant a start position of last for the final, not where you want to be up against the cream of British talent. Scott however seemed undaunted and set about what looked an impossible task. After reaching the leading pack in fairly short order there followed one of the classic formula A races with the pack giving no quarter in an incredible scrap which showed all that is good about British karting. Scott eventually took the flag after an incredible race.

Scott commented afterwards "it was fantastic to get the win against the country's top drivers the respect out there was amazing it was a real privilege to race with these guys. Scott also paid tribute to his team "this was a real team effort, everybody had to work so hard with me competing in both formulas and I must thank them all"

Margutti trophy 3rd- 4th March

Following on from his double British open win the previous weekend Scott was naturally

full of confidence for the Margutti trophy. Unfortunately that inner self belief was to prove insufficent to make up for the same lack of power that had been evident at the Winter cup. A large number of the entry had the same problems and the meeting was consequently full of controversy. As a result Intrepid have decided to withdraw from the

Italian championship and meetings are currently taking place to decide the way forward for the 2006 season, news will follow shortly and a revised calendar for Scott and Intrepid will appear soon.

Winter cup, Lonato Italy 18th February

Although in the end a respectable finish was achieved       with 2006 trophies

this proved to be a difficult and testing weekend.

With the new engine homologation a lot of the near 100 entry seemed to be struggling with their power units and we were no exception,We were also on a new chassis for the first time and had to work really hard to get everything right. Despite this we managed to qualify 40th and set about the racing. Good heat results promoted us to 16th on the grid for the final and gave us just a glimmer of hope. However with a spirited drive Scott managed to reach 13th place and bring a respectable conclusion to a tough weekend.
